Evangelism is the proclamation of the “good news” that Jesus Christ lived, died for our sins, and rose again so that all who believe may receive eternal life. The term itself comes from the Greek euangelion, meaning “good message,” and euangelizo, meaning “to announce or bring this message.” It’s the heartbeat of Christ’s own mission and the defining mandate for every follower of Jesus.
Jesus’ directive in the Great Commission is unequivocal: “Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them… and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you” (Matthew 28:19–20). This command underscores both the universal scope of evangelism and the promise that Christ is with us “to the very end of the age”.
The urgency of evangelism is rooted in eternal realities. As Jesus declares, “For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son, that whoever believes in Him shall not perish but have eternal life… whoever does not believe has already been condemned” (John 3:16–18). Sharing this message is an act of compassion and obedience, inviting others to step from death to life in Christ.
